Some time ago we tinkered a little around the edges and gave you a nice, easy entry with nail polish and lipstick so in the next few letters we’re going to push things further by focusing on your face.

The human gaze is naturally drawn to other faces, whether it’s to gaze into someone’s eyes, watch their mouth as they talk or just to read their emotions, it’s something most people never even realise they’re doing.

Makeup is a way for you to take control of the message you’re sending and help you get closer to the ideal vision of yourself so the you in the mirror matches the you in your head.

Equipment

The makeup section at the Academy Store has what you’ll need. This can be a daunting area, so you may want to pick one thing and work at that for a while before moving onto the next or you may want to dive in and start working on everything at the same time.

I’ll be covering each part on it’s own and we’ll be working up to putting everything together and seeing the bigger picture, for those of you who want to speed things along a practice head like this can be a great help. Learning how to apply makeup and applying it to yourself are separate skills so been able to work on perfecting one before you use the other can be a real help.

Before we get to putting any makeup on, make sure you have the means to remove it! We’ve covered this before but make sure you have it ready. It can be as simple as face wipes or formal removed and cotton balls.

As you’re going to be applying makeup to your face a mirror will be required. You might be able to make do with your phone, but it will be very fiddly and isn’t recommended!

Perfection

We’ll talk about what’s realistic and achievable later, the thing to always remember is that you won’t be perfect at the start, or indeed anytime soon. GIrls have a lifetime of practice, experience and societal pressure and expectations and even they have to start from nowhere and learn how, so don’t get downhearted if it just doesn’t seem to be working or you finish and you look like a racoon. We’ve all been there and if you keep working you will improve.

You’ve already laid some of the groundwork but we’ll pick this up in a couple of days time and get to the actual makeup.

Tonight, watch this video. Don’t worry about how she does what she’s doing, just watch her doing it. See how she looks at the beginning and then how she looks at the end. That’s the power of makeup! If you have the time, you can find and watch more makeup transformation videos.

Stay pretty sweetheart, you’ve got this!
