Academy 8 - Dollification 16 - Chick Flicks

Further unwinding

Ok, so you’ve taken a lovely long bath, you’ve dried off and made sure your feet are toasty and extra cozy. You’ve taken care of your skincare for the night and you’re dressed in your sluttiest lingerie (just for you, because sometimes you just want to feel sultry and sexy) with a kimono on over it but it’s not bedtime yet.

What can you do that isn’t very strenuous and will keep your relaxing vibe going? I’m glad you asked because the answer is you watch a chick flick.

For those of you who don’t know, a chick flick is a film that is geared and marketed towards a female audience and will usually focus on romance, relationships and emotions. Romantic comedies are one of a number of subcategories, so they are fair game too!

The setting is important too, so make some cocoa (you want a warm, non-caffeinated drink) and maybe get a blanket if it’s a little cold and you have no one to snuggle up to. Then put your feet up and start watching. Any of the popular streaming services will be able to give you a steady stream of them so you will be spoilt for choice.

How you watch is just as important, you’ve built up a nice steady stream of relaxation so you need to keep it going. You’re not here to critique the films, make fun of them or worry about plot holes. Just accept them for what they are and focus on the emotional side of things. Remember that you’re in girl mode as you do this, so make sure you’re empathizing with the female characters and trying to see things from their point of view.

It’s a little like reading a romance novel before bed, you have to meet it halfway to really get the full effect. This doesn’t mean we expect you to end the movie in a flood of tears but if you have a warm lump in your tummy then it’s definitely working (and if you have something in your eye that’s making it water, that will just be our little secret).

A bath or a chick flick are wonderful things to do on their own but combining them works super well, especially if you’re very busy and feeling stressed from overwork or physically tired.

Sometimes your brain just won’t stop spinning, sitting in a pool of hot water means that you have to keep your body still and then your mind will start to follow suit and quiet. The heat will relax you physically and make you a little sleepy so your mind will follow.

Once you get out of the bath (sorry girls, eventually you have to!) and keep the pampering going by having warm and fluffy things surround you, you’ll keep that frame of mind and you’re ready for the movie.

Your body will thank you and you’ll feel like a whole new woman when you wake up the next day!
