Academy 8 - Dollification 14 - Creating a gentle voice

Creating a gentle voice

Once sissies reach a certain level, the number one thing that stops them from going further and being a little more overt with their sissy side is how they sound. To the people you’ll be dealing with, this usually isn’t a big deal but to you, it can be a serious issue.

Once you’ve got your hair, makeup, body, and outfit all just perfect you start to worry that you’ll open your mouth and spoil everything but the good news is, this is something you can work at and improve!

Even better, once you start getting better and seeing (well hearing) your improvement, your confidence will start to soar which will inspire you to keep working. It’s another virtuous circle.

A warning

I know we do this a lot and stress that things are marathons and not sprints but this is somewhere we need to do it again (and it’s so important, I used a big, pink heading to emphasise it!). You’re not going to change your voice overnight and you shouldn’t ever try to.

Overworking your voice, especially when you’re just starting to work with it, is the worst thing you can do. It’s easy to get caught up in it and think you’ll just spend 5 more minutes but this is when you push things too far and then have to spend a week with a sore throat, unable to train it at all and lose your progress.

Mark my words well, to begin with, you shouldn’t spend any more than 5 or 10 minutes a day on voice training. This isn’t something where more is better and you can try and force your way through. You’ll be able to increase the length of your practice as you progress and you become used to what you’re doing and your voice starts to strengthen, but for now keep your training short!

Getting started

We’ll dive into the biology behind the difference between male and female voices in a future letter but today we’re starting slowly and giving you something simple to begin with.

First up, record your male voice. This is like taking a “before” picture of yourself when you start your new exercise regime and dietary improvements. You want a record of where you started from so that in future you have clear evidence of your progress.

You can use your phone and save the file into a “Your Name’s Voice” folder on your drive. Make sure you date it and record what it is, a before capture of your original voice.

The swallow

Yes girls, I know where your mind went when you saw this heading 😉. Get a glass of water and sit somewhere comfortable.

Reach up a hand and touch your throat, now move it to the bump that’s part way between your chin and your chest, this is your Adam’s apple and it includes your voice box.

Now swallow (feel free to take a drink beforehand if your throat is feeling a little dry) and feel what happens to your Adam’s apple. Try it a few times and you should notice that it moves up towards your chin as you swallow and then drops back down to it’s usual place when the swallow is complete.

In women, the Adam’s apple (which is much less prominent) is positioned higher up the throat, which is why women’s voices are different. Nothing short of surgery can change the prominence but as you’ve just found out, you can move your voice box so it’s situated in a more feminine position.

For your practice swallow, pause part way through and hold your voice box in the higher position. Don’t use your hand to try and restrain it that way, just hold the swallow at the top so the voice box stays in the higher position.

Holding it like this is something you won’t be used to, but with a little practice you’ll find it easier to do and hold there (but remember, you’re not spending very long each day doing it!).

Part 2

After a few days of practicing this, you can begin part two. Start to talk when you’re holding your voice box in the higher position. The title of this letter is “Creating a gentle voice” so bear that in mind and keep it quiet and soft when you talk. Keep a glass of water handy too.

This helps you in two ways, you’re much less likely to strain anything if the volume is low and you want your female voice to be softer than your male one so start as you mean to go on!

After a few days, you can record yourself again and listen to your original recording and your new one and see if you can notice the difference.

Then on with these exercises, if every day doesn’t work for you, every 2 or 3 days is fine but don’t think 30 minutes every 3 days is allowed, it’s a maximum of 10 minutes every time you practice.

You should notice a difference with the two recordings you make here but don’t expect miracles straight away, you’re just getting started but you’ll get there!
